Summer Research Fellowships 2021

Summer Research Fellowships

At HIA, we are disappointed that graduate students will not be able to engage in summer travel for international research. To make sure that students continue to receive support that will help them to make progress toward their dissertations, we have decided to offer fellowships for alternative research plans that include a Latin American or hemispheric component. These will range from $500 to $1,500 and must be used in Summer 2021. Preference will be given to students who are not yet doctoral candidates and who have not received prior HIA summer support.

Some of the options we envision include*:

  • Language Training
    • Last summer we supported six students to study, among other languages, Haitian Creole, Embera, Unagem Tunuu, Nahuatl, and Quechua.
  • Research Training
  • Archive Immersion
    • Libraries and archives are increasing their online options.
  • Interviews
    • If you need to dedicate time to interviewing via Zoom, WhatsApp, or phone. Please be specific about with whom and why as well as about your methodology.
