Historian Andres Resendez presents his book, The Other Slavery: the Uncovered History of Indian Enslavement in America. Finalist for the 2016 National
Book Award and longlisted for the 2017 PEN/ John Kenneth Galbraith Award for Nonfiction, The Other Slavery is a landmark history telling the sweeping story of the enslavement of tens of thousends of Native Americans across America, from the time of the Conquistadores to the early twentieth century.
Resendez grew up in Mexico where he received his BA in International Relations, briefly went into politics, and served as a consultant for historical soap operas (telenovelas). He received his Phd. in History at the University of Chicago and has taught at Yale, the University of Helsinski, and is currently a history professor and departmental vice chair of the UC Davis History department.
