Rossana Barragán holds a PhD from the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences in Paris. She has been a professor at Universidad San Andrés in La Paz, director of the La Paz Archive, and director or editorial board member of numerous journals. She is currently a researcher at the Institute for Social History in Amsterdam. Her books include:  Mundos del Trabajo en transformación: entre lo local y lo global (Comp. junto con Pilar Uriona, 2014); Reescrituras de la Independencia junto con María Luisa Soux y otros autores 2013; Asambleas Constituyentes.  Ciudadanía y elecciones, convenciones y debates (1825-1971), 2006; Debates Post Coloniales: Una introducción a los Estudios de la Subalternidad, con S. Rivera 1997.Espacio Urbano y Dinámica Etnica:  La Paz en el siglo XX (1990). She is finishing a book on colonial Potosí, the subject of her talk in Davis.

The Hemispheric Institute on the Americas is an interdisciplinary group bringing together faculty and graduate students that focus on the study of transnational processes in the American Hemisphere.

Our Goal includes promoting research to challenge the boundaries of disciplinary specialization and culture area studies, exploring the connections throughout the social, cultural, and economic landscape of the Western Hemisphere from an array of perspective and redirecting and redefining the study of Latin America from a broadly hemispheric viewpoint.
