Directions to HIA Office and Conference Room

Our office can be a bit of a challenge to find if you're not familiar with the campus or the building. We're located in the Social Science & Humanities building, which you can find by visiting the virtual map of the campus.  You need to stay on street level and go the the heart of the "death star" as the building is commonly known.  The HIA Conference Room is 1271 SS&H.

  From I-80 Eastbound: Exit I-80 Eastbound at Highway 113. Take the Russell exit, heading East. Turn right at the stoplight on to Howard Way. Turn left into the North Entry Parking Structure. Walk to the Social Sciences and Humanities Building and enter through the Sociology department doors on A Street.  Walk through the Sociology department doors on A street.  Walk down the Sociology department hallway and exit the door at the other end.  HIA is in the block of offices immediately facing the Sociology exit.

From I-80 Westbound:

Exit I-80 Westbound at Richards Boulevard. Turn left onto First Street. Proceed along First to A. Turn right onto A Street. Proceed along A to Russell. Turn left onto Russell. Turn left at the stoplight onto Howard Way. Turn left into the North Entry Parking Structure. Walk to the Social Sciences and Humanities Building and enter through the Sociology department doors on A street. Walk down the Sociology department hallway and exit the door at the other end.  HIA is in the block of offices immediately facing the Sociology exit

From the train station:
Davis is on Amtrak's Capitol Corridor line and easily reached from the Bay Area or Sacramento by train. From the train station, walk along Second Street to A Street. Turn right onto A, and you'll see the Social Sciences and Humanities Building on your left.  Enter through the Sociology department doors on A Street.  Walk down the Sociology department hallway and exit the door at the other end of the hallway.  HIA is in the block of offices immediately facing the Sociology exit.

Mission

The Hemispheric Institute on the Americas is an interdisciplinary group bringing together faculty and graduate students that focus on the study of transnational processes in the American Hemisphere.

Our Goal includes promoting research to challenge the boundaries of disciplinary specialization and culture area studies, exploring the connections throughout the social, cultural, and economic landscape of the Western Hemisphere from an array of perspective and redirecting and redefining the study of Latin America from a broadly hemispheric viewpoint.
